Who VALOUR helps

You don’t have to be in crisis to use VALOUR. Support can be helpful at any stage of life, whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want to feel more connected.

For some people, that might mean help with housing, work or health. For others, it might be about building routine, confidence or meeting people who understand your experiences.

There are no barriers to getting started. If you, a family member or someone you care for has ever served in the UK armed forces, VALOUR can help.

Can’t find a centre near you?

We’re expanding our network, with more locations coming in early 2027. We’ll be focusing on where they’re needed most.

In the meantime, you can still get support now by telephone, email or online referral.

John: Yes, it was hard. I didn’t know what to expect when I did leave, but yeah, I knew I had to make a move. Minister for Veterans and People: Hi. It’s Calvin. John: [Shaking hands] Hi. Nothing like a good cup of tea. Minister for Veterans and People: Yeah. What’s your story? John: Joined the Army in 2002. I had an accident in Cyprus on adventure training, parachuting. I think I was unconscious for about a month. Because of my injury, I was permanently downgraded. I wasn’t going to be allowed to go on tours. Minister for Veterans and People: And how did you find arriving back in society? John: You see, you read on the news about homeless veterans and all that stuff. I could have been one of those. So, yes, it was hard. I didn’t know what to expect when I did leave, but I knew I had to make a move. Minister for Veterans and People: So, how did RBVE help you? John: I was always into gardening back home. They put me on a course at a prestigious college. So, I’m infantry. I thought I didn’t have the brain for that, but I got through it fine. So, I’ve got accommodation. They’ve employed me, so I can earn and support myself. I’ve got a daughter, too. She’s just turned eight. Minister for Veterans and People: How important is VALOUR? John: I think it’s extremely important. They know what they’re doing. They will help you. We need something, but we don’t know who to ask. It’s a stepping stone, but you got to want it. Minister for Veterans and People: It’s such a pleasure to meet you. You’re really incredibly inspiring, and don’t don’t underestimate how important what you’re doing is. Thank you very much for your service.
